Local entertainment for your “staycation”

The greatest week of the spring semester is finally here: Spring Break. Though I won’t be going anywhere fantastic (although my own bed and home cooked meals sounds pretty close to fantastic), I will not be blogging for the next week. Never fear! I will return after this week with more thought-provoking articles than you will know what to do with.

In the meantime, locals have a lot to look forward to. Not only will the arrogant college students finally be out of their beautiful downtown area, but one of the biggest drinking holidays in America will finally arrive: St. Patrick’s Day.

However, if you are a student exiled to Lafayette and West Lafayette, your “staycation” will have an abundance of bars and entertainment to make you not-so-sad that a tropical oasis isn’t in your future.

Charles Adams, a senior in the College of Liberal Arts, isn’t upset that he is leaving for his home in Gary, Ind., before the festivities start. For him, St. Patrick’s day is just another holiday.

“I like to watch basketball and I know some teams wear green jerseys for St. Patrick’s Day, but I don’t know, it’s just never been really a special day,” Adams said.

Still, he was forced to “participate” in rituals in high school such as wearing green to keep from getting pinched. He remembers the first time it happened being confused as to the reason for the assault.

“I remember I was in high school and that’s when I first found out about it,” Adams said. “Somebody tried to pinch me but I’m not really OK with that, or at the time I wasn’t and I almost got into a fight about it. I didn’t know it was a thing.”

After this point, Adams reports that he is wearing green underwear each St. Patrick’s Day so that he can remain unchallenged and pinch free.

You’ll want to don the Kelly Green for bar events this weekend though. A full list can be found below:
